Pantech p7040 phone recordings, NYC 2010-15

270 personal recordings taken off the old phone from the NYC days of 2010-2015. Sound/thought memos, musical memos, energy memos, reflections mid-practice on improvisation, consciousness, bookmarks on a moment, an opening... Many things from beneath the George Washington Bridge with trombone, that dynamic life space and power spot for projection and warmup, trajectory, moments of having found access to something expressively which I wanted to remember, capture... Or from in the apartment sanctuary, the 'shram for immersion, creative exploration and meditation... Or just out and about in the many places and between meetings, within an experience, observing, holding, appreciating, recording, or a poetry coming, something to say, reaching through.......

Indeterminate Collage No. 2

The second of a new series of experiments combining three independent layers/rows of single tracks using sounds of nature atmosphere, animals, civilization, and world music, all playing simultaneously. Each of the three layers of selection have been chosen at random out of a folder containing over a thousand individual recordings of varying length which have been gathered over the years from various sources. There has been no "compositional editing" so to say to this rendering, no stylistic intention, manipulation, or esthetic choice put into any of it, except for overall volume equalization to avoid excess loudness and peaking to the audio. The result is 3-channels of recordings of different quality, age, spatial orientation/location, duration, and global origin. Listening with a good pair headphones is highly recommended. I love listening to/providing myself with this sort of thing when opening up into the day's instrumental warmup and yoga, unfolding and stretching out the energy's consciousness and calling in the creative, vibratory visions.

Indeterminate Collage No. 1

The first of a new series of experiments, a chance procedure combining three simultaneous random playlists of roughly equal length using individual tracks of world music. There has been no editing, stylistic intention, manipulation, or esthetic choice put into any of it, except for overall volume equalization and a fade-out at the end. Each random playlist was compiled indeterminately out of a chance selection of single tracks from a folder filled over the years from numerous sources. The result is 3-channels of recordings of different quality, age, spatial orientation, duration, and global origin. Listening with headphones is recommended.

I personally find that listening to such random combinations of things at times can provide an invaluable awakening for the mind, spirit and energy on its journey into a day's musical perception and artistic dream-usage, opening the canopy of flow and outlook into an unpredictable, inspiring coexistence of realities meeting each other unexpectedly for the first time. A world-premiere of combinations which exposes us to new and beautiful, totally unintentional, inherently "pointless" interactions which further open and extend the immeasurable threshold of our experiential awareness and reach. It is as fulfilling and revealing as anything compositional or improvisational, as it is both, and yet, in the end, manifested through the interaction of non-interaction...
